Piedmont Rural Telephone Cooperative serves 10,000 customers with communications services like high speed internet access and fiber optic technology.

As a 70-year-old telecommunications company located in Upstate SC, PRTC had longevity and a growing customer base in their favor—but I.T. costs were growing at an alarming rate, placing a burden on company stakeholders and reducing their margin.

PRTC was struggling to keep up with the demands of the quickly changing I.T. landscape, particularly increased overhead costs associated with supporting qualified I.T. staff and up-to-date technology.

“Being a small sized business, we lacked the resources to efficiently scale up our I.T. solutions. As we attempted to recruit and staff up our I.T. department to meet our business demand, costs continued to rise.” – Randy Lis, General Manager, PRTC

After responding to an RFP put out by PRTC, our EDTS sales engineers realized that, given their current infrastructure, monthly management fees would be much higher than they had to be.PRTC Logo.jpg

Instead of quoting managed services out of the gate, EDTS recommended a complete assessment that would outline PRTC’s entire I.T. landscape and include a roadmap to how they could cut costs and boost efficiency over time.

The outcome of that initial assessment led to a great managed services partnership.

“Our annual I.T. expenses prior to implementing the MSP strategy peaked at over $650k per year. We are looking at an expense run rate reduction of over 50% in savings. There is always room for improvement, but we feel that all our initial goals and objectives have been met.”
